2 Billion people lack basic access to clean and safe food. That’s nearly 25% worldwide, or ~3times the population of Europe without access to life’s most basic human need. The majority live in isolated rural areas and spend hours every day seeking and preparing food for their family. Not only does walking for food keep kids out of school and take up time that parents could be using to earn money, but the food often carries diseases that make them sick.
When a community gets access to self-sufficient and sustainable farming, it can change just about everything.
The food crisis is huge, but it is solvable. We work with local experts and community members to find the best sustainable solution in each place where we work, whether it’s seeds to be provided, grain storage to be build, basic farming equipment, or a system for harvesting water. And with every project we fund, our partners coordinate sanitation and hygiene training and establish a local Food Committee to help keep farming sustainable and resistant for years to come.
